India Police Arrest NewsClick Founder, Raid Journalists' Homes Over Alleged China FundPolice in India have arrested the founder of independent news portal NewsClick after raiding the homes of dozens of journalists and staff on Oct. 3 amid allegations that the company received funding from communist China. Some 500 cops had been deployed to over 100 locations linked to the news site, according to local reports. Delhi police said they interrogated 46 “suspects” and seized their devices for the investigation. Those questioned include current and former employees, contributors, and cartoonists. Journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, a consultant for NewsClick, said the police asked him various questions, including whether he had covered the 2020 Delhi riots. “Nine police personnel came to my home in Gurugram at 6.30 in the morning. 3 Filipino Fishermen Die in South China Sea After Their Boat Is Hit by Passing Commercial VesselMANILA, Philippines—Three Filipino fishermen died in the disputed South China Sea after their boat was accidentally hit by a passing commercial vessel, the Philippine Coast Guard said Wednesday. The fishermen’s boat, F/B Dearyn, was moored in a fishing area in the high seas off the northwestern Philippines when it was hit before dawn on Monday by the passing vessel and capsized, killing its skipper and two crew members. Three other fishermen aboard the Dearyn survived, the Coast Guard said. Eight other men were fishing separately on board smaller boats at the time of the accident, officials said. Due to adverse weather conditions and the darkness, “the crew on board the mother boat failed to detect an unidentified vessel approaching, resulting in a collision that caused the mother boat to capsize,” the Coast Guard said....
