Ahead of a face-to-face meeting between the leaders of China and the United States, U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry and his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, issued a statement stressing the two countries’ commitment to the Paris Agreement and other climate-related policies—but some specifics are lacking. The Nov. 14 announcement was made just half a month ahead of the next United Nations climate conference, COP28. The meeting will take place in Dubai between Nov. 30 and Dec. 12. China and the United States are the No. 1 and No. 2 sources of greenhouse gas emissions, making them critical players in any international climate negotiations. The Australian government has singled out the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a major sponsor of cyberattacks and malicious activities targeting critical infrastructures and businesses in the country. In a newly released report, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), responsible for foreign signals intelligence, cyber security, and offensive cyber operations, raised the alarm about a sharp rise in cybercrimes against Australian government entities, companies, and individuals. The report (pdf) pointed out that the CCP, as a major backer of cyber criminals and actors, remained a significant threat to Australia’s cyber security in 2023. In May, the ASD highlighted that Volt Typhoon, a hacking group backed by the Chinese regime, was able to use a technique called “living off the land” to blend in with normal system and network activities to steal information and conduct cyber espionage.... 
President Joe Biden is meeting with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leader Xi Jinping, in San Francisco on Nov. 15 to tackle a range of contentious issues, including human rights. The leaders and their delegates are convening at a Georgian revival-style estate south of San Francisco for what will likely be a four-hour-long talk. “I’ve always found our discussions straightforward and frank, and I’ve always appreciated it,” President Biden said in his opening remarks at the beginning of the meeting. The second annual “Honoring the Victims of Mao and Stalin” event took place on Nov. 4 at the Utah State Capitol building rotunda.
