Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with a bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators in Beijing on Monday, the first exchange with American lawmakers in nearly a decade, sending a signal that the communist regime wants to engage with Washington in the face of a stalling economy. The six-member delegation, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), is on the third day of their Asia trip, which also includes stops in Japan and South Korea. A Chinese Coast Guard ship came within three feet of ramming a Philippines Coast Guard vessel. The Chinese vessel cut across the bow of the Filipino vessel, the BRP Sindangan, ultimately passing just feet away as the Filipino crew threw off the engines and attempted to reverse to avoid a catastrophe. The Chinese Coast Guard vessel then proceeded to harass the Filipino crew, demanding over a megaphone that the vessel leave Chinese territory.
