As part of a joint military exercise with the Philippines, the U.S. Navy is slated to sink a mock warship on April 26, 2023, in the South China Sea.
The live-fire drill is not a response to increased tensions with China over Taiwan, both the U.S. and the Philippines have stressed. But, either way, Beijing isn’t happy – responding by holding its own staged military event involving actual warships and fighter jets deployed around Taiwan, a self-governed island that Beijing claims as its own.
Chief of Naval Intelligence Visits CIWT and NIOC Pensacola
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Rear Adm. Mike Studeman, Commander, Office of Naval Intelligence, visited the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT), Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Corry Station, and Navy Information Operations Center (NIOC) Pensacola on Mar. 30, 2023.
Capt. Christopher Bryant, commanding officer, CIWT, hosted a roundtable discussion with Studeman and were joined by Cmdr. Colleen Hanbury, commanding officer, NIOC Pensacola, and Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Furst, executive officer, IWTC Corry Station, to discuss a wide range of information warfare training developments and initiatives.
8 FW flies first 7AF PoBIT upgraded F-16

After receiving the first phase of one of the largest modernization efforts in U.S. Air Force F-16 program history, an upgraded Fighting Falcon has rejoined the 8th Fighter Wing’s Pack, April 4, 2023.
Wolf Pack Tail 021 has returned to 8 FW operations after about 7 weeks away for maintenance, where the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Post Block Integration Team, or “PoBIT” project, provided the 1989 aircraft with the first wave of 22 modifications designed to improve F-16 lethality to meet the needs of current day and future operations.
